News!

It’s been years since we’ve updated this site. I, this is George writing, have been wanting to completely overhaul it and bring it up to date but haven’t had the time. So we’re trying out a new way to give news updates -- a short term “blog” here and a real blog at sootypaws.livejournal.com to contain all the entries we make in a convenient and orderly fashion and also as a way for people to easily comment.

A lot has happened and most hasn’t been particularly easy to fit in our prior News update format. Viva was diagnosed with diabetes in autumn 2005 and has been on insulin ever since. She’s doing well, considering, and still purring enthusiastically. Bobo became seriously ill in the summer of 2006 and we almost lost him but there’s been no serious relapse since which is nice.

In 2005 we began planning, and in 2006 building, a substantial addition to our home and that has consumed almost all our time and attention since then. We’re almost done and when there’s a moment we’ll post photos and commentary in the buildings section of the site and bits here too.

We hope in the future the site (and blog) will show more how we do things -- from collecting and storing rainwater to building windows. We also hope to focus on our country’s energy policy. We were working on several items toward this when, BLAM, we got a call Wednesday, 3 September, that the company who owned the mineral rights for our property planned to put a gas well here. Which, sadly, means we’ll get to examine the issue up close -- closer than we ever wanted.

In a day or two there’ll be a post about the first meeting with the company’s representatives, the company itself, and more.

It’s great to be back!
