Clovis

The deer this year have been unusually visible and not as shy. The least shy is a young male, named Clovis by our neighbor, Tommy.

Tommy first noticed Clovis enjoying the apples in his orchard and he began rolling apples to Clovis. Deer love apples and Clovis seemed to enjoy the game. As summer progressed, Tommy could get closer and closer to Clovis, and recently he's been able to hand feed peas and corn from the garden.

We were in the truck Saturday night, talking to Tommy, and Clovis walked up. Tommy got some corn from the garden and Molly took photos as he fed Clovis.

Tommy has hopes to put a blaze collar on Clovis so hunters won't kill him, but now that the "moss" is off the antlers (they are razor sharp), it's not so easy to get close.

blaze collar

Forgive the ignorance. I assume a blaze color shows up brightly but what will prevent a hunter from killing Clovis? Is there a law that deer with blaze collars cannot be killed?

Re: blaze collar

Hi Barb,

It's sort of a rule for hunters that if a deer is marked as a pet with a collar or neckband of some sort, then they shouldn't shoot it. Blaze is best, but one couple here, years ago, had a pet doe that wore a white neckerchief around its neck.

Thanks!

George
great picture.

Hi angel,

We purchased a Canon Powershot so we could record what's happening with the well and better be able to post quickly here and on the website. I still prefer our Canon Eos SLR film camera, but the Powershot is fun and the photos are great. Molly shot this one without even having had a chance to read the manual yet.

Thanks!

George
that is impressive (taken without reading the manual even).
